The nightmare that the creator of those huge glass pieces that decorate the Apple Store always dreams of has come true. One of the huge pieces of the cube in the Apple Store on New York’s Fifth Avenue has been shattered this week due to the misdirection of a snowplow.
The east coast of the United States has witnessed a major polar cold spell these days, so the snowplows have had to work against the clock in order to guarantee movement on the streets of Manhattan. One of them has hit the glass cube… and the result is the one you can see in the picture.
New Yorkers have taken more pictures of the event using Instagram. Replacing that piece of glass can cost $440,000 for nothing:
Let’s remember that Apple changed this glass cube a couple of years ago, going from having ninety pieces of glass to having only fifteen. Now it’s time to replace one of those fifteen, although those who pass by while it’s not being done will be able to take snapshots of the cube as we will rarely see : with one of its cracked parts. I’m sure that in the next snowstorm the operators will be more careful.
