Some images have been released showing a new interface concept for Cydia. Although Saurik, the creator of Cydia, has said on many occasions that he does not have the control he would like over the platform to make modifications, he has not prevented other developers from thinking about a new design for the platform. This is the case of Sentry, the creator of the multitasking Auxo, who has filtered these images where we see a complete face-lift of Cydia based on the design of the App Store.
I’m sure all of you who have the jailbreak done to your iOS devices will spend more time searching for features and tweeks on Cydia than downloading apps from the App Store. If so I think you will agree with me that the interface design of Cydia leaves a lot to be desired and is totally outdated . However, it seems that there is no intention to update this design.
Cydia’s creator explains it
This criticism has been made hundreds of times to Saurik, the creator of Cydia, who has always responded with the argument that does not have as much control over the platform as we think . And it’s really true since Saurik devised Cydia as an open platform where users and developers could upload content.
According to Saurik himself, if it were up to him, he would change many things on Cydia, starting with the annoying ads, but the platform is totally open, it’s like a kind of browser, which can’t control the content on the internet but can show it to you. Controlling the content of Cydia would go against its principles as it was created to respond to the centralization that the App Store represents.
New interface concept for Cydia
Saurik’s defeatism has not prevented other developers from thinking of a much more intuitive, navigable and up-to-date design for Cydia. The creator of the multitasking Auxo, Sentry, has been commissioned to release some images through his Dribbble account in which he redesigns the concept completely offering a much more visually appealing interface. According to the author this new design is based on the App Store interface .
This new interface concept for Cydia would make navigation much more intuitive and familiar. This design shows in a more organized way all the content making it easier to access information and discover new features. As we can see another of the fundamental aspects in this new design is the elimination of advertising that Saurik mentioned as it seriously damages the usability of Cydia.
At the moment this is a simple conceptualization of what could be Cydia with a good face-lift but hopefully we will see something similar in the near future for those of us who use Cydia daily.
