A bug in WhatsApp allows your blocked contacts to send you a message

Did you have to block any contacts on WhatsApp because it got too heavy? This is a way to take a weight off our shoulders in a very simple way, by making that person disappear from our messaging service. But this seems to have failed as Twitter has been plagued with messages claiming that blocked contacts could contact you again as if we had never blocked them which has surprised us to no avail.

Twitter and Discord have been plagued in recent hours with messages complaining about a rather annoying error on WhatsApp . This bug has been picked up today by the WABetaInfo Twitter account and making public this bug that many people are suffering from.

This bug as I mentioned at the beginning of the post would allow the contacts we have blocked to continue sending us messages as if nothing had happened, something that makes us quite indignant. We haven’t received any official communication from the messaging service about this bug yet, but we hope to see a patch that will solve it in the next few days.

At the moment the only solution is to unblock and re-block the contact in question . So far only this bug has been reported in the iOS version. In addition to this bug allowing us to send messages, these blocked users will also be able to see our status.

This bug was first reported yesterday coinciding with the release of a new version of the application , which may have reset our block list on the messaging service servers and so we have to unblock and block these unwanted contacts again.

This bug has clearly affected users’ privacy and so we ask WhatsApp to address this and release an update if necessary or finish fixing it on their own servers.

Leave us in the comment box what you think about this error and if you have been affected.
